Country Lake Christian Retreat is non-profit 501(c)3 ministry with a beautiful 200 acre retreat complex located just north of Henryville, IN that offers a 52 room hotel & conference center, six dorms with more than 500 beds, two commercial kitchens and a variety of activities designed to inspire healthy relationships, personal growth, and spiritual renewal in a Christ-Centered environment.

Food Service/Culinary General Manager, Country Lake Christian Retreat, Underwood, IN

Pre-Requisites: Possess the qualities of a servant leader (willing to join in and not just provide direction), willing and able to lead with the values reflected in our statement of faith, embrace the mission and vision of Country Lake, demonstrate strong people skills, excellent attitude, critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills.

Overview:

Country Lake is a Christ-Centered ministry that serves over 30,000 guests each year from Conferences & Retreats in the Main Lodge & Conference Center to serving over 9,000 youth during Summer Camps.  Country Lake partners with many ministries and organizations to host events year around and desires to deliver an exceptional experience for all guests regardless of group size.  The meal experience is one of the most critical components and the right candidate for this role will be a servant leader who embraces hospitality (without grumbling/complaining), appreciates quality food and can offer a warm and inviting environment for both staff and guests. The culinary staff is currently made up of four full-time positions including two chefs and two shift leaders as well as ten part time staff and additional seasonal staff are added in the summer months. Our desire is that the right candidate will be passionate about bringing out the best in others, being a champion for creativity and innovation, developing effective process for efficiency and will create an exceptional experience through meals, snacks, beverage services or any other element that includes culinary engagement.

Key components:

  • Manage all food and beverage operations to ensure that Country Lake’s standards of service and quality are met or exceeded at all times.

  • Be able to foster and cultivate a culture of hospitality, trust and respect among staff and guests

  • Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and conduct in accordance with appropriate regulations.

  • Have the creative ability to lead a team, handle conflict in a healthy manner and inspire a spirit of hospitality and service for a wide range of guests from professional conferences to summer camp participants.

  • Have a healthy respect for food allergies and help culinary team creatively and intentionally offer favorable solutions for guests while maintaining food quality standards and expectations

  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and leadership skills

  • Handle all ordering, inventory & communication with vendors and representatives

  • Oversee scheduling to accommodate all events

 

Position: Classified as FT with benefits. Reports to the Director of Operations

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 annual salary based on experience and compatibility

Benefits: FT benefits include Healthcare (including dental and vision), 401K, Holiday pay and PTO.

Electronics provisions: Laptop, cell phone plan included (or $50 reimbursement monthly for use of personal phone)

 

Scope of Work: The demands of the Food Service/Culinary Manager vary almost as much as the seasons they follow.  The food service manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for insuring groups meal needs are met in a timely, professional manner while introducing fresh, new and relevant concepts and ideas

  • Placing food orders, managing inventory, and coordinating preparation, presentation and serving of food for all events.

  • Hiring, scheduling, training, developing and evaluating all food service team members

 Hours: Schedule can include Days, Evenings & Weekends but on a balanced rotation (Average 40-50 hours a week).

 

Part Time Culinary/Food Service Roles

Shift Leader & Cooks: Looking for leaders with excellent attitudes, a passion for hospitality and the ability to manage a team effectively to prepare, cook, stage and serve meals for up to 800 at a time while embracing the food service standards, safety protocols and maintaining a positive work environment.

Starting Pay: $18-$25 Hourly (negotiable based on experience)

Available Shifts: Weekdays, Weekends, days and evenings (Typical Shifts 6a-2p and 12p-8p)

 

Food Service Support: Support personnel are critical to the success of our food service team.  They provide front line support in food preparation, food transport and staging as well as serving and cleanup.  Food Service Support Crew must be at least 15 years old.

Starting Pay: $13.00/hr.

Available Shifts: Weekdays, Weekends, days and evenings (Typical Shifts 6a-2p and 12p-8p)

Activity Coordinator

Overview: The Activity Coordinator will oversee all Adventure Zone & Activity elements at Country Lake including training personnel, maintaining safety guidelines and logs, equipment and facility oversight, staffing, scheduling and facilitation. The Activity Coordinator is responsible for ongoing upkeep, maintenance and inspection of equipment (harnesses, paintball guns, masks, etc.) and facilities (Zip Line Tower, high ropes course, paintball fields, etc.). This role will also support other areas of the ministry including set up, tech and a/v, and various projects.

Position: Classified as FT with benefits. Reports to Programming and Community Engagement Manager.

Compensation: $20-$24/per hour

Benefits: Healthcare, Vision, Dental, 401K, Holiday Pay and PTO.

Scope of work: The demands of the Activity Coordinator vary by season but include the following:

  • Overseeing all aspects of Country Lake Facilitated Activities

  • Providing adequate training and development for staff

  • Scheduling to accommodate guest groups and scheduled events

  • Maintaining and upgrading equipment as needed

Essential Functions (including but not limited to the following):

  • Supervise/Lead groups on activities provided by Country Lake Christian Retreat

  • Available to work when activities are scheduled, including nights and weekends

  • Ensure all safety inspections, training logs, and various paperwork is in order and up to date

  • Train and develop staff to offer an exceptional experience in a safe environment

  • Establish and implement a maintenance schedule for each activity

  • Continuous improvement for all activities and offerings at CL

Hours: Schedule can include Days, Evenings & Weekends (Average 40-50 hours a week).
